The Blog

Oh no… not another post from Ciarra! lol I’m on role =p

Urban Design (part 1)

Today we worked with Juliet (winner of the Amelia street competition) she told us all about the Amelia Street project and showed us some maps and street designs. then we went for a walk in Pottersfield  and we really focused on exactly how and why everything (the public space) was designed. If there is one thing I’ve learnt today it’s: Everything down to the tiniest detail was designed for a reason! For example some on the benches there were chosen to stop people from skating on them. I didn’t realise that some paths are designed to be a “fast route” which is aimed for busy people who need to get from A-B quickly.

Then we went to St John’s churchyard, to be completely honest it was very dull, But I loved the puzzle (that me, Tony and Tess de-coded) you had to run around to each corner of park if you wanted to piece the whole thing together, once did that you would also learn some of the park’s history. We discussed the pro’s and con’s of the park...hey, can someone gives me the name of the people that planted the flowers? Because I need to call their boss and get them F-I-R-E-D! I have never seen such a dull set of “arranged” flowers and they looked like they were just planted anyway without any thought or Consideration! Clearly they need to get some Urban pioneers down there and show them how it’s done! =p But the park itself has a lot of potential, that is why we have been set a challenge, to see if we can come up with ideas to improve it.
